Polynesian fractal art image Tane    In many of the Polynesian creation myths the first beings, human or divine, are a male trinity (Tane, Tiki and Tangaroa) who emerge from the Mother Earth at the separation of earth and sky. The firstborn is Tane (Kane in Hawaii), god of land forms and terrestrial life. [Fractal programs: Fractal Zplot, The Gimp]

Polynesian fractal art image Tiki    The concept of Tiki in Polynesian myths is quite complex: he is god, man, and the image of the god, with a notion somewhat similar to the Biblical concept that man was created in the image of God. In modern usage "tiki" means "image" or "statue", and is used mostly to describe statues or carvings of human forms which in other times were representations of the gods (and often still are). Polynesian fractal art image Tangaroa   Tangaroa (Kanaloa in Hawaii, Ta'aroa in Tahiti), the third member of this primal trinity, is regarded in some areas of Polynesia as god of the wind, in others as god of the darkness and the underworld, but more often as god of the sea, and is usually portrayed in the form of an octopus. Polynesian fractal art image Atanua    [goddess of the dawn]. In most Polynesian creation myths the first beings, human or divine, are a male trinity, but in the mythology of Fenua Enana (Marquisas Islands) and Hawaii they are preceded by a female divinity, who is responsible for their emergence. In Hawaii she's called La'ila'i and in Fenua Enana she's Atanua. In both these areas of Polynesia she's at the origin of a feminine, and feminist, mythology. [Programs: Sterlingware, The Gimp]

Polynesian fractal art image Fetu o Atea   [goddess of the morning star]. The ancient Polynesians often portrayed their gods as stars, and Fetu o Atea is the goddess of the morning star. One myth of French Polynesia makes her the origin of all the stars. A human named Koomahu who managed to climb to the heavens fell in love with the goddess. As she slept with other goddesses in a common house he crept in to make ungentlemanly advances.Fetu o Atea resisted and she and all the goddesses fled their house to spread all over the heavens.
